MCI and Crossfields Institute congratulated the first students graduating with the new regulated EYE qualification in Montessori Pedagogy at the graduation event 11 December hosted at the Institute of Education (University of London). Speakers at the event included Barbara Isaacs (MCI Chief Education Officer), Penny Johns (Director of Studies) Imogen Stooke-Wheeler, (personal friend of Miss Child and Miss Homfray), Dr. Martin Bradley (Chair of the Montessori Schools Association), David Grailey (Chief Executive, NCFE CACHE) and Charlotte von Bülow (Chief Executive Crossfields Institute).

In her speech to graduates, Charlotte von Bülow said: “We have enjoyed working closely with MCI and NCFE CACHE in the process of developing this qualification. More than ever, we need to ensure that our children can benefit from holistic approaches like the one represented by the Montessori pedagogy. Seeing you graduate from this qualification today is a big step towards making innovative early years education more widely recognised and accessible.” Charlotte also thanked David Grailey from NCFE CACHE for the good collaboration and congratulated Penny Johns and Barbara Isaacs on the achievement.

The Montessori approach is holistic and aims to develop the whole child. Maria Montessori left a legacy in her approach to learning, which combines a philosophy of freedom and self-development for children with a practical approach. She was an innovator of classroom practices and ideas, which have had a profound influence on the education of young children the world over.
