Trauma theory is a fast developing area, and is emerging as a fundamental influence on best practice in the care of individuals within the care system. Despite increased research in this area, there is little in the way of regulated qualifications across the world and none in the UK. This qualification is an integral part of the effort to expand understanding of the impact of trauma, and structure and deliver services in a way that are Trauma Responsive. It aims to equip learners with a theoretical and practical understanding of Trauma Informed Care.

Study method

Study methods can include blended, full or part time, face-to-face and distance learning as well as independent study. Please contact centre for details. 

How long does it take?

18 months part-time recommended. The programme should be completed in a maximum of 3 years following registration.


Assessment is an ongoing process that is initiated in the earliest stages of the qualification and recorded in a portfolio of evidence. At the core of the process is observation of practice by experienced tutors, written assignments and reflective practice. Formal assessment may be supported by peer observation or feedback as witness testimony. The portfolio of evidence may include, feedback from an assessor, a learning journal, written assignments, self–reflective journals and witness testimony
