Summary

This qualification is designed for people who already hold a formally recognised mental health qualification and who wish to train in equine assisted psychotherapy. It introduces the LEAP method and guides learners through its application in a variety of mental health contexts. The qualification covers the human and animal welfare aspects of Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP).

This qualification covers knowledge about the theory of EFP and specifically the LEAP method. It also facilitates the development of a range of skills and capacities including horsemanship skills, self-reflection, using own body as a sensing device and assessment of client needs. It also prepares learners for the practical and safety implications of using horses for therapy and the challenges of working within a different frame, without the containment and structure offered in a room-based environment Ithas the following objectives:
