The London Steiner Kindergarten Training Company, was established in 1991 to deliver Steiner Waldorf early childhood studies training to learners intending on working in a Steiner kindergarten. This then led to the first Department for Education approved “Full and Relevant” Steiner Waldorf early childhood education. The centre’s approach is to providing learning and self-development opportunities which prepare learners to be self-reflective practitioners with the confidence to review their practice in the light of contemporary social needs surrounding early childhood.
Highgate House School was established in 1992 in Repulse Bay for the founders’ own children. In 2001, Julie Lam, a founder member, brought the philosophy of Steiner Waldorf education to Hong Kong by introducing some of the basic principles into the school and with additional groups for younger children. Following the set up of a teacher training programme, the International Kindergarten Association accredited the school as a Steiner Waldorf Kindergarten in 2003. The optional units of this qualification were developed in collaboration with Highgate House School.
